trees communicate via an underground network. they share information and exchange nutrients between one another by sending chemical, hormonal and slow-pulsing electrical signals through the network of fungi beneath the soil that surrounds and connects their roots. coined the 'wood wide web', this network is estimated to be 500 million years old.

i recently composed, recorded and mixed 'underwood', a soundscape for the interactive art installation 'unterwald', which artistically relates to the wood wide web.

and i imagined how this network would sound if we could get our ears close enough to hear the ever-pulsing signals of the www.

the 'unterwald' installation has been (juli, august, september 2021) exposed at museum bread and art (museum brot und kunst), ulm.germany. all five tracks can be interactively triggered via touch sensors.
